Wedding Music – Recessional and Signing of the Register
Wedding music is such a personal choice and many couples don’t know where to start.
Working in the wedding industry Doctor Chocolate are often asked by couples What music do we choose for the wedding recessional part of the ceremony? Do we need a wedding music playlist? I want music for my wedding but need some wedding entertainment ideas? I want to choose the best wedding music but don’t know where to start?
Well, music is a personal choice but its also an extremely important part of any celebration.
Choosing the music for your guests to listen to whilst you are signing the register.
Normally in a Church this music can be played by the organist who will choose various classical pieces to play. However, if you want something a little different you can request songs for the organist to play at this time. Alternatively, you can hire a singer to perform some laid back easy listening songs -perhaps something more traditional like Ave Maria. Remember this is a time when your guests are sitting and milling about waiting for you to come back into the room so they can take photographs and cheer at the new Mr & Mrs so the music needs to be rousing and celebratory.
If you’ve seen Love Actually – you’ll see musicians dotted around the ceremony who jump up and play music immediately. This is great – but not always practical as the sound will sound thin. Why not have a small band performing at this time but set up in the one area – they can also play your entrance song, recessional songs and your exit song so you may not need an organist at all – especially if the band can also play your hymns too. The added advantage of having a band and vocalist to sing the hymns is that your guests will be able to follow them! They band may be able to change the key of the hymn too – as not everyone can sing soprano!
If you are having a civil ceremony then it is likely you will remain in the same room whilst you sign the register – so pick songs that mean something to you too.
Here are some suggestions
Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Eva Cassidy
Can You Feel The Love Tonight – Lion King
Moon River – Frank Sinatra
Fly Me To The Moon – Frank Sinatra
I’m in the Mood For Love – Andy Williams
Any old classics would be fantastic at this time and appeal to the mixed age range of your guests.
